Positive reinforcement is an essential element in our preschool classroom! Verbal praise is constant, as well as fun forms of recognition. A few examples are: "thumbs up", "pat yourself on the back", "give yourself a hug", and our self-esteem/recognition cheer: "I am smart! Hooray for me!"
In addition, I will intermittently send home "Bear Hug" notes to share some good news about your child with you!
In the upcoming months, we will utilize our "Good Choice Board" to encourage and reinforce positive behavior in the classroom. The bulletin board inside the classroom will be decorated with a monthly theme. Paper incentives will be given to the children on an intermittent basis for good behavior.
Paper incentives will be given to the children throughout the day for good listening, following rules, helping others, using good manners, etc. After receiving a paper incentive, the child is allowed to place it in a bag attached to the bulletin board. At the end of each day, the paper shapes will be stapled along the edges of the bulletin board to form a border. Once the border is complete, the entire class will earn a fun reward!
In this way, children are immediately recognized for good behavior (paper incentive), as well as cooperating together to receive a class reward. Although the shapes will be distributed on an intermittent basis, there will be numerous opportunities for each child to earn a few throughout the month!
